A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a healthcare professional who provides basic care to patients normally under the supervision of a nurse or works as an assistant nurse. CNAs play an essential role in assisting patients with daily activities and providing support to registered nurses (RNs) and other medical staff.
Duties of A CNA Professional:
1. Basic patient care: Assisting with activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and grooming patients.
2. Vital signs monitoring: Taking and recording vital signs like temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
3. Patient mobility: Helping patients move, repositioning them, and ensuring they are comfortable.
4. Patient hygiene: Ensuring that patients are kept clean and their personal hygiene needs are met.
5. Assisting with meals: Feeding patients who may need assistance or ensuring that patients eat properly.
6. Reporting changes: Communicating any changes in a patient’s condition to the nurse.
7. Documentation: Recording patient information, such as food intake, bowel movements, or other specific observations.
8. Providing physical support for patients or residents with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, using the toilet, walking, standing, or exercising
9. Communicating with other members of the healthcare team
10. Checking patients’ vital signs
11. Following facility and legal procedures about safety
12. Recording patients’ vital signs, including pulse rate and blood pressure
13. Assisting patients with basic tasks, such as eating and walking
14. Reviewing any dietary restrictions patients might have and offering appropriate meals
Certification: To become a CNA, candidates typically need to complete a training provided by TVET approved institutions and pass a certification exam from TVET CDACC or NITA or any recognized examination body.
